Opt-Out Applications

Submit your health and/or dental opt-out application before the deadline.

Fall Deadline

September 30th, 2024

Make sure to submit your form by September 30th as the Douglas College online account won't allow changes after that date.

There is no opt-out form available during the winter term.

Opt-Out Eligibility

Only in the Fall semester, all eligible students who have comparable Health and Dental coverage from their parents, spouse, government, job, or band may apply to opt out of the plan by the applicable fall deadline.

Important notes:
  • A parents' insurance plan will stop covering you if you are a part-time student over the age of 21 or a full-time student over the age of 25.
  • You can coordinate 2 benefit plans and increase your coverage up to 100%! Find out more Coordination of Benefits
  • What is in the best interest of my overall health and well-being?
  • Does my existing coverage meet all my needs?
  • The only time you can get back on this student plan is at the anniversary of starting your program (every year) OR within 30 days of losing your comparable coverage.
  • BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) or The Student Plan is not acceptable as comparable insurance coverage.
  • The comparable coverage accepted could be from parents, spouse, work, government, or band.
  • The opt-out process must be completed each year that you are assessed the Health and Dental Plan fee.
  • NO EXCEPTIONS will be made if the deadline is missed. It is the student's responsibility to pay the plan's mandatory fees, should they miss the applicable opt-out deadline.

Steps to Opt-Out:

  1. Login in to your Douglas College myAccount
  2. Select Registration
  3. Select Medical/Dental Opt Out
  4. Follow prompts and Input alternative plan name and number (There is only one opportunity to do this - you cannot go back and make changes).

This will trigger a credit to your account once your benefits carrier has been verified.

The opt-out process must be completed each year that you are assessed the Health and Dental Plan fee.
