myvirtualdoctor provides students and their dependents access to virtual health care. Members are guaranteed to be able to speak with a medical professional to address their needs and be provided the appropriate care. myvirtualdoctor offers unlimited 24/7 access anywhere in Canada and features:

  • Access to health care professionals in 30 different languages.
  • Fast access to medical professionals via chat, video, or phone.
  • Consultations for eligible dependents at no additional cost.

myvirtualdoctor can support members with various needs and offers the following functions:

  • Diagnosis, Labs, Imaging, & Referrals.
  • Prescription delivery service.
  • Specialist appointments.
  • Safe and secure transfer of medical records to primary care physician.

Eligibility Criteria

Know if you are an eligible student for myvirtualdoctor
Group of Students

You will be automatically eligible for myvirtualdoctor service and assessed the applicable fee, if you meet all the following criteria:

  • You are enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at the University of Western Ontario.
  • You are covered under a Provincial Health Care Plan or equivalent.
  • You must be residing in Canada.

Eligible students who have not opted out of myvirtualdoctor coverage, will receive an email with information on how to download the Telus Health app and register your account. The app is available on both Android and iOS devices and is accessible using any web browser.

If you are unsure if you are eligible for myvirtualdoctor service, please contact the Western USC Student Benefits Plan Office at healthdental@westernusc.ca prior to any applicable deadline.

Opt-out of myvirtualdoctor

Want to Opt-Out of myvirtualdoctor

Students can opt-out of myvirtualdoctor based on their personal choice by submitting an online application by the applicable term deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made if the deadline is missed. It is the student's responsibility to pay the plan fees, should they miss the applicable term deadline.

Once you opt-out you will not be able to re-enroll in the program until your enrollment anniversary. To keep the waiver active, you must submit an opt-out application each year or when you see the fee included in your tuition.

The Extended Health and Dental Plan for eligible students

The student health and dental plan provides protection and security for eligible students minimizing the effects of injury or ailments. The cost of the plans is included in your institutional fees. The Student Plan covers prescription drugs, vision, dental care, paramedical practitioners, ambulance, and medical equipment & supplies, among others.

If you are unsure about whether you are eligible for the Student Health and Dental plan, please contact your Benefit Plan Office at healthdental@westernusc.ca prior to any applicable deadlines.
