International Student Medical Plan Opt-Out

Winter deadline to submit applications
January 22^nd, 2024

International students with valid Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) may be eligible to opt-out of the International Student Medical Plan by the applicable term deadline.

Eligible students must submit their applications before the applicable term deadline. NO EXCEPTIONS will be made if the deadline is missed.

Important notes:

Students who opt-out of International Student Medical Plan will no longer be able to submit claims to this program. It is important for students to contact the SARDP Office should they have outstanding health expenses that occurred prior to obtaining AHCIP coverage. Opting out may result in those expenses not being covered by either program.
It is the student's responsibility to renew their Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) and maintain active AHCIP while studying in Alberta.
NO EXCEPTIONS will be made if your AHCIP is not renewed or valid at the time of opting out. It is the student’s responsibility to pay the plan’s mandatory fees.
Once you complete the International Student Medical Plan opt-out form, you will receive an automated email confirmation. Please keep this email for your records as it is your only proof of submitting an opt-out request.
Submitting this form does not confirm that you have successfully opted out. Your online opt-out is pending until the SARDP receives confirmation from the insurer that your coverage has been cancelled.
