International Students

If you have been assessed the health and dental plan fees, included in the health fee is the Repatriation of Remains/Family Transportation Benefits.

International Students that qualify for Manitoba Health will be automatically assessed for the Red River College Students' Association Repatriation of Remains / Family Transportation Benefit.

The 12-Month coverage period begins on the first of the calendar month your program starts, and ends the last day of the twelfth month thereafter.

Examples:
For programs beginning in August 2012 the coverage period is August 1, 2012 through July 31, 2013;
For programs beginning in September 2012, the coverage period is September 1, 2012 through August 31, 2013, and so on.

Important Note: During the 12-month coverage period for your program, the Repatriation of Remains / Family Transportation Benefit is valid while you are outside your Home Country. Therefore, your coverage is valid on the later of:
a) The first of the calendar month your program begins, and
b) The date you depart your Home Country for Canada;

And, your coverage is valid until the earlier of:
a) The last day of the twelfth month after the first of the calendar month your program began; and
b) The date you return to your Home Country upon completion of your program;

**Students in certain programs may have been assessed less then a 12 month coverage period.**


What Is Covered?

The Repatriation of Remains / Family Transportation Benefit covers the following types of expenses:

Repatriation or Burial of Deceased: If You sustain an injury or suffer a sudden and unexpected Illness that results in Your death, We will arrange and pay up to a maximum of $12,500 Canadian Dollars either:
a) towards the reasonable and necessary costs for the preparation and return of Your remains to Your Home Country in a standard transportation container. We will assist in obtaining the necessary clearances for Your cremation or the return of Your mortal remains. We will coordinate the preparation and transportation of Your mortal remains to Your Home Country.
or
b) towards the cost of preparing the remains, cremation or burial, and a burial plot in the location where death occurs. The costs for a coffin, urn, headstone, or funeral are excluded.

Family Member Transportation: If You sustain an injury or suffer a sudden and unexpected Illness that results in Your death, We will arrange and pay up to $2,500 Canadian Dollars for a round-trip economy flight and accommodations for a family member traveling for purposes to identify the deceased.
