Eligibility Criteria

The International Student Emergency Medical Plan was approved by the College of New Caledonia International Education Department. The emergency medical insurance plan provides coverage in the event of an emergent medical occurrence for eligible students minimizing the effects of injury or ailments costs during a temporary period while your British Columbia Medical Service Plan application is being processed.

All full-time international students are eligible and required to be enrolled in the College of New Caledonia (CNC) International Emergency Medical Plan. The cost of this plan is included with your tuition fees. You will automatically be enrolled into the plan upon receipt of your registration and the applicable Consent form as provided to you by the International Education Department, provided you meet the eligibility enrollment criteria:

  • Students who have obtained proof of admission and registration with CNC, a Designated Learning Institution
  • Are 65 years old or under; and
  • Possess a Valid Study Permit
  • Know of no reason to seek medical attention at the time of purchase

Coverage Period

International students are enrolled onto the College of New Caledonia(CNC) International Emergency Medical Insurance Plan for 90 days commensurate with their approved registration dates as confirmed by the CNC International Education Department. The 90-day coverage period allows students the necessary time to apply for British Columbia's Medical Service Plan (MSP), BC's provincial health care coverage. Student effective and expiry dates are predetermined with CNC and the insurer.

Medical Services Plan - MSP is a provincial plan that is mandatory while studying in the Province of British Columbia with a valid study permit for a minimum of six months.

Each student and dependent must apply individually and will be covered under separate policies provided the appropriate premiums have been paid.

Medical Services Plan of British Columbia

British Columbia's MSP provincial plan is designed to provide eligible residents with coverage related to medically necessary care under insured doctor services, such as most hospital and doctor services. MSP does not cover dental visits, prescription drugs, eye wear and corrective lenses and travel.

International students studying and residing in BC with a valid study permit of 6 months or greater is required to enrol and apply for British Columbia's Medical Services Plan (MSP). Registration can made as soon as you arrive to BC, Canada. International students will be charged a monthly health fee allowing for participation and benefit from BC's provincial health coverage.

It is the student's responsibility to apply for their Medical Services Plan of British Columbia.
