International Student Emergency Health Insurance Plan

The myCanadaplan Emergency Health Insurance Plan provides coverage to International Students in the event of an emergency medical occurrence, accident, or illness while they are studying in Canada at Great Plains College. A pre-existing exclusion may apply to medical conditions and/or symptoms that existed before you came to Canada for study.

There may be limitations and exclusions that apply within the international policy. An exclusion is a condition or instance that is not covered by the International Student Health Insurance - mycanadaplan. It's important to review and understand exclusions to the plan before using your benefits.

Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan (ETR)

All full-time international students who have either obtained provincial health and/or have transitioned from the International Student Medical Insurance Plan to the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan are automatically enrolled in the ETR Insurance plan. This plan covers international students in the event of an accident, sickness, injury, critical illness, or death, and need to return to their home country.

There may be limitations and exclusions that apply within the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan. An exclusion is a condition or instance that is not covered by the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan (ETR).

The coverage provided by the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan is not offered through the provincial Saskatchewan Health coverage.

Accessing Medical Care

While a direct billing network is currently under review as an international student you are not required to use the clinics within an approved network, however, such clinics can assist with billing directly to the insurer when arrangement is made in advance.

Student members are advised to call MSH Assistance Intrepid 24/7, at the following numbers - +1-866-883-9787 or +1-647-288-3065 toll-free from Canada and the USA collect where available and speak to a call centre representative prior to visiting a medical clinic should you require immediate medical attention due to an illness, injury, or accident.

Should you require immediate medical assistance for an emergent medical occurrence, please dial 911.

The MSH Assistance/Intrepid 24/7 call center will help you to manage your clinic choices and allow the call center to assist you with the confirmation process in scheduling with the specified clinic in addition to providing them with a Verification of Benefits (VOB) where and when applicable, allowing for your visit to be direct billed to the insurer. Members will only receive communication if they reach out to assistance for a case and have a case reference number established or have submitted a claim to our claims team, or in cases where additional information is required, the student member will receive a follow up email directly.

In the event you are issued a medical bill and/or must pay for a clinic visit out of pocket or have visited another hospital/clinic then it is advised before you leave the clinic to ask for a copy of all the medical records related to your visit and follow the instructions under Plan Claims.
