Eligibility Criteria

There are two international plans and as an eligible international student at Great Plains College. The mycanadaplan – International Student Medical Insurance Plan and the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan. All international plans are mandatory.

mycanadaplan - The International Student Medical Insurance Plan - was approved by Great Plains College. The emergency medical insurance plan provides coverage in the event of an emergent medical occurrence for eligible students, such as an injury, illness or accident minimizing the costs associated with effects of injury or ailments costs while studying in Canada. The coverage is comparable to doctor insured services such as visiting a medical clinic or hospital.

Eligible international students will automatically be enrolled in the International Student Medical Insurance Plan – mycanadaplan. The international student emergency medical insurance plan is a mandatory plan and fees will be added to your student account as part of your tuition when you are enrolled at Great Plains College.

International students are automatically enrolled in the international plans if they meet the following criteria:

  • You are an international student; and
  • You must be registered and accepted in an eligible program as an international student; and
  • You are under the age of 65.

Emergency Transportation and Repatriation (ETR) Insurance Plan

The student emergency transportation and repatriation plan was approved by Great Plains College. The Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan covers transportation and repatriation expenses arising from accident, sickness, injury, death, and critical illness. Coverage is subject to certain limitations and exclusions, which are explained in this policy. It is important that you read and understand your policy.

Eligible students with valid Saskatchewan Health will automatically be enrolled in the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan.

International students are automatically enrolled in the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan if they meet the following criteria:

  • You are an international student; and
  • You have obtained Provincial Health coverage for your province of study; and
  • You must be registered and accepted in an eligible program as an international student; and
  • You are under the age of 65.

Enrollment Confirmation

If you are unsure about whether or not you are eligible for the International Student Medical Insurance Plan - mycanadaplan or the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance Plan, please contact your Benefit Plan Office at gpcplan@mystudentplan.ca prior to any applicable deadlines.

International Wallet Card

Eligible students enrolled in the International Student Medical Insurance Plan - mycanadaplan will receive their policy documentation by email which will include an international wallet card, policy summary and claim form. Students will receive this information at the email address provided by Great Plains College.

Coverage Period

The coverage period is the length of time which your myCanadaplan Emergency Health Insurance policy is in effect.

New International Students

New International students are automatically enrolled to the International Student Medical Insurance plan -mycanadaplan and the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation (ETR) plan for a combined total of 12 months.

The International Student Medical Insurance Plan - mycanadaplan is a 60-day term plan. This is a mandatory plan.

Students are automatically enrolled onto the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance (ETR) plan at the beginning of the 3rd month (or 61st day) for the remainder of their coverage period providing a total of 12 months of coverage between the mycanadaplan and the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance (ETR).

International Returning Students

Returning students are automatically enrolled in the Emergency Transportation and Repatriation Insurance (ETR) plan for 12 months. Coverage dates are based on your program start dates, for instances, if your program start date is September 5th, coverage is effective September 1st as confirmed by Great Plains, including valid provincial health for the province of study and residence. This is a mandatory plan.

Effective Date

The coverage effective and expiry dates are predetermined with Great Plains based on program start dates.

Termination Date

The termination date of your benefits is the coverage end date. You will find this located on your international wallet card you would have received from MSH and Intrepid 24/7. If you want to confirm the termination date of your plan, please contact your Benefit Plan Office at gpcplan@mystudentplan.ca.
